Psalm of Praise

July 3, 2020

I was reading Psalm 145, listed as a reading in the lectionary this week, and learned it that in Hebrew it is an acrostic. So I thought I would experiment with writing a Psalm following a similar pattern.

Almighty God, I lift your name
and give thanks to you always.

Basking in radiant eternal righteousness

you alone are worthy to be praised.

Countless mercies and delight

fill me with joy.

Descendants and ancestors

sing your praises and pass down stories of your glory.

Every day I stop and pray with wonder

taking in the majestic scope of your creation.

Far and wide I shout in amazement

sharing your spectacular impact on my life.

Gratitude flows into the streets, filling the air

until everyone knows how awesome you are.

How patient and wonderful

gracious and overflowing with love.

Indescribable mercy and goodness

move throughout all of God’s creation.

Jubilant are your people, Sovereign One

we cannot stop praising your name.

Kin-dom work is all around

your peacemaking family declares your name.

Loud acclimations describe a vision of wholeness

amplifying your words into every space.

Movements of abundant grace

are passed down through every generation.

Stories of God’s mercy and justice

of promises kept to those open to receiving them.

No-one is left behind

God meets us where we are and keeps us from falling.

Only you can feed my soul

in you I am nourished.

Precious surprises await

you meet every need in your creation.

Questions are answered

God replies with patience and knowledge.

Responsive and alive

the One who made me offers clarity.

Saving Grace meets me in my weakness

Divine Love holds tightly to my spirit.

Today I feel safe in God’s arms

protected by the Heavenly Parent.

Under your guiding arm

I move with a sense of purpose.

Very soon, every living being will experience your presence

and share in your wisdom and truth

Waiting and watching we know your reign is near

rising up all around us

Xenial, relational triune God,

your Spirit moves in us and through us.

Your love breaks through

opening us to endless possibility.

Zealous joy and gratitude

God’s creation sings praise forever.
