In the wilderness,
Jesus was emptied of distraction and
filled with Holy Spirit purpose.

Meanwhile,
Evil does the devil’s work,
promising:
Junk Food Faith
Corrupt Power
Vain Glorification

For 40 days,
Jesus holds out through every test
A model for us who are
trapped in a pandemic desert for 740 days
Famished from isolation
Distracted by false comfort.

It’s time to let go of the tempter’s lies.
Escape the wilderness.
Affirm nourishing relationships.
Affirm the powerful love of God and humanity.
Affirm the glory of creation.

Confident in who you are and whose you are
Declare boldly: Not today, Satan.
