Superficial performative changes
Whitewashed history
We are weary

It’s been a long pandemic
Since 1619
Surely it can wait another day
We’ll deal with it tomorrow

In the meantime
Injustice multiplies
Beloveds are harmed

Jesus pushes us
The time is now
Pick up those nets
Go deeper than you thought you could

Through the murky water
Strategically moving past the predators
The gatekeepers
The distractions
To clear water
Where the pollution hasn’t quite permeated

Go deeper
Catch a glimpse of the miraculous manifestation
Where justice and joy overflow
Divine sacred worth
Reflected in each interaction between all of God’s creation.
